Fuellers Advantage Presentation- UK CCS: What’s Next 20 Oct 2026

Organised by Fueller Simon Parsons the Fuellers Advantage took place at the National Liberal Club in London last night. Bringing together it’s Energy Circle members with the Master and members of the Fuellers we heard from Charles Perez-Storey talk about “UK CCS: What’s Next?”

Simon Parsons summarised the evening as follows :

"Arriving at the National Liberal Club for a Fuellers Advantage event is always a pleasure. The traditional facade and the imposing painting of Churchill provide a sense of history and atmosphere.

The NLC has reconfigured the room that housed the Savage Club for many years, transforming it into a far more civilised place, now known as the Lounge. With its remarkable collection of pictures, comfortable surroundings and warm club atmosphere, it makes it an excellent venue for these talks.

We had gathered to learn about carbon capture and storage (CCS), arguably the most expensive form of waste disposal, but nevertheless a key pillar of the Government’s drive towards Net Zero.

Our speaker was Charles Perez-Storey of Progressive Energy, a company that has been at the forefront of carbon capture developments, long before the technology became a familiar part of the energy debate.

Charles had enough material for a two-hour presentation. However, despite feeling unwell, he suggested we buckle up and proceeded to take us on a rollercoaster ride through virtually every aspect of carbon capture and storage. We covered its history, why it is needed, the technologies involved, the development of the industrial clusters, the policy initiatives, offshore storage, pipeline transportation and even emerging initiatives to transport CO2 by rail.

The 30 attendees duly buckled in for this whirlwind tour of CCS and emerged slightly dazed, but considerably better informed. Charles managed to pack an extraordinary amount of technical detail into a relatively short time, providing a fascinating insight into both the opportunities and the challenges facing the industry.

As always, the talk was followed by plenty of lively discussion over a drink, giving everyone an opportunity to explore the topic further.

This Fuellers Advantage certainly achieved its objective of providing members with an engaging and informative technical presentation on an aspect of the energy industry that was relatively new to many in the room.

Our thanks go to Charles for such an energetic and comprehensive presentation, particularly as he was not feeling his best. It was another excellent Fuellers Advantage evening".

With many thanks to Simon Parsons, Liveryman for this summary.

Charles is a Principal Engineer at Progressive Energy Ltd, a UK leader in low-carbon project development with over 25 years’ experience in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

The UK’s Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) industry has made significant progress since 2016, with major projects reaching Final Investment Decision in 2024 and 2025. However, after being seen as a global leader, progress has slowed amid political uncertainty and industry challenges. This presentation explored the development of CCS since 2021, the current UK project landscape, the technologies involved, and what is needed to unlock future growth and establish a self-sustaining market. The audience had many questions for Charles after learning more about these vital projects. #livery #CCUS #energy5
