Getting the Measure of Methane
Dr Peter Evans
BP

1800 - 1900 14 April 2021

This is the calling notice for the 26th Fuellers Conversation in association with EY at 1800 1930 on 14 April by Zoom. Fuellers Conversations* are your opportunity to hear leading energy figures and then engage them in questions. Follow this link for the Conversation.

Methane is the second most abundant of the anthropogenic greenhouse gases but is also the main constituent of natural gas. And whilst oil and gas production is not the only source of methane, understanding and managing emissions from the energy sector has rapidly become a hot topic for the industry, its regulators and society.

In this conversation, Peter Evans will present the science behind methane as a greenhouse gas before exploring some of the initiatives to control emissions and improve transparency in reporting including the UN-led ‘Oil and Gas Methane Partnership’ and the new EU methane strategy . To make this a reality, a new class of methane monitoring and measurement systems is being developed and he will showcase some of the latest technology being used.

About the speaker
Peter Evans is the senior engineering product owner for methane measurement at bp where he is responsible for setting the strategic priorities for methane measurement. Methane measurement is one of ten aims defined by bp as part of its new strategy, launched in 2020, to be a net-zero company by 2050 or sooner. By 2023 the aim is to install methane measurement on major oil and gas processing sites, publish the data, and then drive a 50% reduction in methane intensity in operations. BP was a founding member of the oil and gas climate initiative and signatory to the methane guiding principles and the oil and gas methane partnership. Peter is a freemen of the the Worshipful Company of Fuellers.

There is no charge for this event, however we invite delegates to make a donation to the Fuellers' Charitable Trust Fund. If you would like to do this please follow this link to the  Charitable Trust Fund 'make a donation' page.

This will be conducted on-line. There is plenty of support available for those who would like it, please contact clerk@fuellers.co.uk who will co-ordinate advice.
